Enterprise Knowledge is pleased to introduce a new webinar series, The Semantic Exchange. This session is the third of a five part series where we invite fellow practitioners to tune in and hear more about work we’ve published from the authors themselves. In these moderated sessions, we invite you to ask the authors questions in a short, accessible format. Think of the series as a chance for a little semantic snack!

This session is designed for a variety of audiences, ranging from those working in the semantic space as taxonomists or ontologists, to folks who are just starting to learn about structured data and content, and how they may fit into broader initiatives around artificial intelligence or knowledge graphs.

This 30-minute session invites you to engage with Kathleen Gollner’s blog, Metadata Within the Semantic Layer. Come ready to hear and ask about:

  • Why metadata is foundational for a semantic layer;
  • How to optimize metadata for use across knowledge assets, systems, and use cases; and
  • How metadata can be leveraged in AI solutions.

This webinar will take place on Wednesday July 9th, from 1:00 – 1:30PM EDT. Can’t make it? The session will also be recorded and published to registered attendees. View the recording here!

  • Why should you model the semantics of your data?
  • What does it mean to define semantics?
  • How do we capture semantics for use by machines?

This webinar will take place on Wednesday July 2nd, from 1:00 – 1:30PM EDT. Can’t make it? The session will also be recorded and published to registered attendees. View the recording here!

EK’s Urmi Majumder and Madeleine Powell jointly delivered the presentation ‘Semantic Maturity Spectrum: Search with Context’ at the MarkLogic World Conference on September 24, 2024.

Semantic search has long proven to be a powerful tool in creating intelligent search experiences. By leveraging a semantic data model, it can effectively understand the searcher’s intent and the contextual meaning of the terms to improve search accuracy. In this session, Majumder and Powell presented case studies for three different organizations across three different industries (finance, pharmaceuticals, and federal research) that started their semantic search journey at three very different maturity levels. For each case study, they described the business use case, solution architecture, implementation approach, and outcomes. Finally, Majumder and Powell rounded out the presentation with a practical guide to getting started with semantic search projects using the organization’s current maturity in the space as a starting point.

Previously at KMWorld 2021, EK joined JPL to share the vision, approach, and delivery of the Institutional Knowledge Graph (IKG), a centrally maintained, ever-evolving knowledge graph identifying and describing JPL’s enterprise-wide concepts, such as people, organizations, projects, and facilities, and the relationships between them. Since August 2020, the IKG has offered a single source of enterprise information that other JPL applications can leverage to reduce redundancy and out-of-date or inaccurate data. In production for 2 years and now with several releases under its belt, the IKG is beginning to fulfill its promise as a foundational layer in the semantic pyramid for additional taxonomies and knowledge graphs to build upon.

At KM World 2022, Bess Schrader, Senior Solutions Consultant at EK, and Ann Bernath, Software Systems Engineer at JPL, shared a follow-up to the IKG journey including a description of the Enterprise Semantic Platform, a look at new taxonomies and knowledge graphs at JPL (enterprise-wide, others specific to engineering, technical, or science domains) and how they are beginning to leverage the IKG’s foundation of JPL concepts to enrich their dataset into a broader context. This presentation discussed different techniques to federate or synchronize multiple knowledge graphs and how these diverse integrations benefit not only the new datasets, but also the IKG as it continues to pursue its overarching dream–providing answers to questions such as, “Who did what when?”, “Who should you call?”, and “Where is the Robotics Lab?”

Enterprise Knowledge’s Senior Consultants, Yanko Ivanov and Ben White, will be speaking at a series of joint webinars hosted by Semantic Web Company titled: “The Road to AI Requires Semantic Data Fabric.” The webinar series focuses on the value and need for a semantic layer to power smarter, more relevant, and more contextualized Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications. As part of building a semantic data fabric, White discusses the approach and methodology for developing a unified, relevant, and intuitive business glossary necessary for ensuring a common language. Ivanov then furthers the discussion by revealing the role standardized semantic taxonomies and ontologies play in laying the groundwork for introducing achievable and realistic AI solutions to organizations. The webinar series concludes with a complete demo application of the concepts discussed during the webinar. Join the webinar series here.

The webinar series is co-hosted along with Semantic Web Company’s Director of Vertical Solutions, Florian Bauer, and Data.World’s Chief Technology Officer, Bryon Jacob.
